Store Design Overview

From Theme Editor to Store Design

Stencil themes have now introduced the new rapid customization tool and experience called Store Design (previously Theme Editor). For more information on using Store Design from a merchant perspective, see our support Store Design article for more information.

Store Design Overview

Store Design is a Graphical User Interface (GUI) that allows BigCommerce merchants to rapidly modify and customize a storefront’s look and feel without manually entering any code. A merchant using the Store Design can customize a storefront theme by modifying characteristics from a variety of menu options such as Styles, Colors, Typography, Buttons, and more. Furthermore, Store Design is a useful rapid-customization tool for developers.

As a theme developer, alongside theaibility to use store design, you also have the capability configure your own settings for Store Design (if you so choose). Your configuration will give merchants who download your theme the ability to use Store Design with your theme in the ways you provide access to. Like previously mentioned, Store Deisgn by default allows merchants to customize everything from Styles, Colors, Typography, Buttons, and more. As a theme developer, you can choose and configure what features can be modified via the Store Design for the theme that you develop.

The remainder of this section guides you, as a developer, through configuring your own theme options.

Single Instance per Storefront

Open only one instance of Store Design at a time against each storefront. There is currently no synchronization mechanism for configuration changes made by multiple Store Design instances.
